I went to see one of my surgeons today. He's the one that is going to take the tumor out of my throat and test it for cancer. I have a surgery date scheduled for this coming Monday to have the tumor removed and tested. I won't know the exact time until tomorrow when they call and give it to me. The surgeon said that the tumor is between my throat and my spine and is going to be difficult to remove, but he's optimistic, thank God. He had me sign a consent form that says if my airway collapses, he will have to put in a temporary trachiatomy (which I certainly don't want). He also said that worst case scenario was that my right vocal chord, the good one, could also get damaged and then I would talk even more hoarse than I do now, which is also something I am praying doesn't happen. He also said that my left vocal chord, the one that's paralyzed, may or may not begin to function again, he can't say for sure, which is a bummer.
It's usually just same day surgery, but because I have severe sleep apnea, they are going to keep me overnight. I will be glad when this is all over and the results come back saying the tumor was not cancerous, so I can get the abdominal surgery that I need done and over with and get on with my life. I'm so tired of feeling sick and being in pain.
The waiting is one of the hardest parts for this type of thing. I'll be thinking of you and sending lots of positive energy your way hon. *hugs*
